Owner: Nick Lundquist
TP: So Nick, how did you come to own your Corvette? What were you driving before?
NL: My first car was a 1997 Camaro...that's when I fell in love with horsepower. Right before I bought the Corvette, I was driving a 2006 Acura TL as my daily, and was out with some old D10 friends at a local racing event when the racing bug got to me again. So I went out and bought my 2007 Corvette. Funny thing, within the first hour of owning it, I was already at the shop putting straight pipes on it. I guess you can say that it was an upward spiral from then on.
TP: Haha. Good stuff. So what's the story behind your purchase of this car? Were there other cars that you were considering when you bought this one?
NL: I had actually been thinking about getting a Dodge Viper as well. But when it came down to it, I decided that I'm a Chevy guy.
TP: Wow that's amazing. So how long have you been working on this particular project, what would you say your build philosophy has been?
NL: This project has taken me just about a year of build time. The main problem has been waiting on parts, since my philosophy has been to go big or go home.
TP: We definitely agree with you on that one. The car looks amazing. Is it also your daily driver? What else do you have in your garage?
NL: No it's not my daily. I put only between fifty to one hundred miles on the Corvette a week. Most days I drive my 2010 Audi S4.
TP: What was the first modification that you made? Tell us about your build process and some of the major milestones.
NL: The first modification was the exhaust and headers. After that I got new cams. Then the guys over at NewTech Performance and I put heads and a D1 supercharger on, and the car made 640 RHWP, which was enough for me for about 3 months. That's when another Corvette passed me like I was a stock Honda (hahaha just kidding). I decided right then to go back to NewTech and build my car into a 1000+ RWHP Vette.
TP: Haha. They always say that losing is the best motivator when it comes to modifying your car. So who would you say does most of the work on your car? Is there a specific person or performance shop(s) that you take it to?
NL: NewTech Performance has done just about all the work on my car. The reason I trust them is not just because we're friends, but because I've learned a lot from the project due to the fact that Nick at NewTech has let me help with the building of the car and has always been there for me whenever I had any concerns.
TP: So how did the car do on the dyno? What kind of horsepower and torque to the wheels are you putting down with your current setup? Do you plan on improving the performance and adding even more power down the road?
NL: Right now the car makes 1,032 RWHP & 965 RWTQ. I plan on putting a F.A.S.T manifold on the car soon, but I don't it will make that much more of a performance difference. It should only make 15 to 20 more horsepower than it does now.
TP: Wow. That's impressive. So do you do any sort of racing with this car? Drag, road course, or street?
NL: All of the above! The car was originally built for the street, but it will hold its own on the drag strip and on a road course. However I also know that there will always be a faster car out there.
TP: What modification(s) would you say is(are) the most rare or unique to your car? What do you think makes your Corvette stand out compared to all the others out there?
NL: The LSX 454 block because you just don't see a lot of Corvettes with this block on the West Coast.
TP: So what do you have planned next? Is this car going to see any more major cosmetic or performance changes?
NL: I think that I'm pretty much done. I plan on putting on an aero kit running the Texas Mile. Sometime after that I'll probably sell it and get something new.
TP: Awesome, definitely keep us posted on how you do out there. Well Nick, we'd like to thank you for sitting down with us. Any last words before we wrap things up?
NL: Thank you to Nick at NewTech Performance. Manu at DPE Wheels. Cort and Joe at D10 Car Club. Mike at Maier Racing. Jeff at Photoshootmycar and DriveCulture and lastly, to TunerPlayground for the opportunity to be featured.
