Daily driven Toyota Supra
Commuting to work done right

TP: So Peter, how did you come to own your Supra? What's the story behind your purchase of this car? Were there other cars that you were considering when you bought this one?

PE: My son had just picked up our second Supra, the first one was a 6 speed that I had driven for a few months before he decided to take it apart to do a major build up on the car. The second was a auto and after driving it around for a few months I really started to miss driving the 6 speed around. So I started looking for another 6 speed. After looking for a few weeks I found a local guy who was selling a TRD Wide Body Supra so he could pay for College. After looking at the car I realized it was in decent enough shape and the Wide Body kit helped differentiate its look from the other two Supras, so I went ahead and bought it. I was also looking at two other cars at the time, both of which were MK4 Supras one was out of state and the other was a RHD but they were both red and I wanted something that wasn't as flamboyant.

TP: How long have you been working on this particular project, what would you say your build philosophy has been?

PE: About a month after picking up the car we noticed that there was an oil leak coming from the motor. The engine had about 114,000 miles on it and while it was running well I didn't want to do any patchwork on the car. My philosophy on anything I do is to do it once and do it right. So I parked the car and handed the keys over to my son and told him to fix it but keep it street drivable, and that I wanted it back for summer time.

TP: Can you give us a rundown of how this car has changed since you've had it? What were some of the major milestones?

PE: The car has basically been torn down and rebuilt with new and better parts. The completion and modification of the body along with the changing of the wheels was the first major milestone. When the completion of the project seemed to be in sight we got the new engine put in and tuned. The final major milestone was the completion of the interior.

TP: We noticed that you have a ton of performance modifications, what kind of power do you put down to the wheels?

PE: The car makes 609WHP on 100 and 754WHP on 114.

TP: Who would you say does most of the work on your car? Is there a specific person or performance shop that you take it to?

PE: We had an in house mechanic for a while that did all the work on our cars. We currently use John Reed from John Reed Racing for all our tuning, Dave's Engine Machining in Newark for our engine builds and Enterprise Motorsports & Differentials for all our fabrication work.

TP: Have you ever raced your car at the track, whether it be drag or on a road course?

PE: I have not used this car for racing at the track, drag strip, or road course. The purpose of this car was to build something simple I could commute to and from work when I don't feel like bouncing around in my 2004 Subaru Impreza Sti because of the harder suspension.

TP: Which modification would you say is the most unique or rare to your car? What do you think makes your Supra stand out compared to all the others out there?

PE: I would have to say the most unique thing about my car that helps it stand out from other Supras is that it was built to look as simple and smooth as possible. No large wing, extra air damns or carbon fiber attached to the body.

TP: What do you have planned next?

PE: The car is scheduled to be taken apart during the winter and be repainted. There are a few problem areas on the car that you only figure out once you have been driving it around so those will be taken care of. The interior will also be removed and cleaned up a bit more and then put back together before summer comes around again.

TP: Well Peter, we'd like to thank you for sitting down with us. Are there any shout-outs you'd like to make?

PE: I would like to thank Mike for putting most of the car together and John Reed for figuring out all the tuning. Also thanks to the great guys at TunerPlayground and Jeff from Photoshootmycar for featuring me. Last but not least, I want to thank my son for taking my car and telling me he was "just going to clean it up a little."
