Redline Time Attack Season Opener

Sunday March 29th marked the beginning of the 2009 Season for Redline Time Attack at Buttonwillow Raceway in Buttonwillow, CA.

TunerPlayground was excited to be able to help introduce their new 2009 Redline Time Attack Series Spokesmodel, our very own, Novella Nicole!

Together, Novella and Redline Time Attack's already famous, Alexia, will be representing Redline Time Attack here on the West Coast during the 2009 Series.

Redline Time Attack Round 1: Through the eyes of Spokesmodel Novella Nicole:

On Saturday afternoon, I drove down to Buttonwillow to meet up with the Redline Time Attack crew. We had dinner at Willow Ranch, a tasty home-style barbeque spot next to the Shell gas station. I recommend the "The Boss," a hot pastrami sandwich. It was delicious! We stayed the night at the Red Roof Inn, which was pretty classy for Buttonwillow. It was also pretty affordable, although there was a motel down the street which had rooms for twenty-five dollars a night, and whose sign proudly announced their "jacuzzi spa rooms!" =)

Alexia aka Ms.Sexia, the other half of my Redline Time Attack Spokesmodel team, showed up at our shared hotel room later that night. We hadn't met yet, and I was curious to get to know her. It turns out that we have a lot in common, including a deep love for the Twilight books (she was reading one on her laptop that night) among other things. We knocked out early to get our beauty sleep for Sunday's event.

We woke up early to do our hair and makeup and put on our outfits. The Redline Time Attack uniforms change every year, and this year we have super- sexy red and black racegirl getups, similar to the kind that Japanese racequeens wear. The only difference is that those uniforms are made of shiny vinyl, and ours are a softer swimsuit fabric. Also, the tops were cut in a way that had a little less coverage on the sides than normal, which was a little awkward, but also kind of hot. We arrived at the track and immediately encountered animosity from the jealous, unfortunate- looking female track workers at the gate. We told them we were Redline Time Attack employees (we were wearing our uniforms, too) and they wouldn't let us in. They forced us to pay the entrance fee, saying that it wasn't their fault, just "the policy." Other male workers and booth attendants told us that the women had let them in for free without any questions or proof of their employment. Needless to say, the Redline people were enraged to hear about this, and probably upset that they would have to reimburse us.

Sunday's Time Attack was bigger and better than that of past years, according to the attendees and the Redline Time Attack crew. Despite the bad economy, vendors were out in full force, and the sponsors were still making a strong showing with their fast cars and drivers. The famous Tarzan, a well- known Japanese driver known for his badass moves on the track and his wild persona off the asphalt was in attendance. I remember handing him a first place trophy during the awards ceremony. The day was clear and sunny, but the winds were killer. It was hard to look good when the wind was blowing so hard that it sent my sharpie flying off the table and even knocked over my energy drink! Our hair kept getting stuck to our lipgloss and sand and bugs kept flying into our eyes. On the upside, I was able to carry myself with a never- before- seen grace. I didn't trip, not even once! Another cool perk of being a Redline Time Attack Spokesmodel was getting to do a quick photoshoot with Richard Fong from DSport. He took some shots of me and Alexia for promotional materials, and from what he showed us, the pictures were pretty cute!

Although we didn't really get to go out on the track, Alexia and I got a good view of the race from our break room on top of the announcer's tower. We could see all the race cars flying around the track and spinning out into the dirt. Since the winds were so strong, everyone seemed pretty surprised that it didn't seem to affect the drivers much. The amount of drivers losing control seemed pretty standard, although Alexia was pretty shocked by the huge dust clouds kicked up by vehicles when tires hit the dirt. Besides taking pictures and enjoying the race, we also helped drive traffic to the Buddy Club and DSport booths by going down for a while to each booth to sign free posters and try to get passerby to sign up for promotional stuff. All of the guys at the booths were really friendly and we had a good time.

Our modeling day ended with the awards ceremony. We had been cautiously eyeing the champagne which had been sitting on ice for the latter half of the day. I didn't want to get pulled over on my way back to San Francisco, covered in sticky champagne. Even though I'm a girl, I have really bad luck with cops, and the officer probably wouldn't believe my ridiculous- sounding "I was a trophy girl at a race event just now, I swear!" story. So as soon as we handed out the last ceremonial bottle, we bolted for the back of the stage, narrowly escaping the champagne explosion behind us...

I want to thank everyone at Redline Time Attack and my newest modeling friend Alexia for a great weekend!

Kisses and hugs,

Novella
