SpoCom 2009
Modified cars and gorgeous girls invaded downtown Long Beach this weekend, as PMD (Pro Motion Distributing)'s 3rd annual Sport Compact convention took place on Sunday June 14, 2009.
We led the NorCal Cruise to SpoCom tour group down to Long Beach the day before, on Saturday June 13th at 10am from N1 Concepts in Hayward.
Our group consisted of 10 cars and 22 people. The drive down took approximately 7 hours including stops for food, gas, and photos.
We ran into some traffic about an hour out from Long Beach and also had a flat on our trailer containing the N1 Concepts S2000 so the rest of the group went on ahead.
By the time we arrived in Long Beach our group cars had participated in the Parade Lap around the downtown area and the block Party on Pine Avenue was in full swing.
People wandered the streets walking between restaurants, bars, and clubs. Pine Avenue was closed between 3rd and Broadway for cars that had participated in the cruise to display at. This included our group, as well as cars from Las Vegas, Phoenix, and San Diego. There was a DJ playing music and a Bikini Contest took place. The winner took home $500.
Lots of industry people were found hanging out at Smooth's Bar and Lounge, including our friends at PMD.
Sunday morning we dragged ourselves up at 6am after barely sleeping (our fault for drinking until 4am at the hotel).
We met in the parking lot with select cars that were allowed to roll into the convention center. As usual a few guys had too much gas in the tank and ended up racing around in a circle. What was more amusing is that 2 of them were cars that participate in Redline Time Attack, the Berk BMW 135i and the Robispec STi.
The show began at 11am with models checking in all the way until noon. TunerPlayground models were in the SpoCom and Pro Motion Distributing model lounges. The bikini contest took place at 2pm, hosted by Alexia Lei, with the LolliMe Bikini Fashion Show featuring TunerPlayground models and hosted by our girl Nicolette Lacson took place at 4pm. There was also a Lingerie Show hosted by TunerPlayground supporter Kat Gutierrez.
Overall it was a great event. There was always something going on on-stage, including a dance competition that brought in some of Southern California's best dance teams. For many who were attending SpoCom for the first time, it was definitely a sight to see because the tuners in SoCal all brought out some serious contenders.
We enjoyed walking around and catching up with our favorite models and industry friends. Congratulations to all the guys who took home trophies and special thanks go out to Mike Morita, Jonathan Tung, Tricia Kawasaki, and everyone else at Pro Motion for taking such great care of us all weekend long.
Photos and videos will be added all week long. Please be patient as we have tons of content to sort.
